Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about C-Bridge installation, setup, features, and integrations.
General
What is C-Bridge?
C-Bridge is a commercial smart building gateway that connects Casambi wireless lighting networks to building management systems, external APIs, dashboards, and third-party platforms. See the System Overview for a full introduction.
Do I need a Casambi network already installed?
Yes. C-Bridge requires an active, commissioned Casambi network. C-Bridge does not commission Casambi devices directly — that is done via the Casambi app. C-Bridge connects to the existing network and extends its capabilities.
Can I use C-Bridge without an internet connection?
Partially. The local dashboard and BACnet integration will continue to work without internet. However, cloud-dependent features (OTA updates, remote access, alert emails) require connectivity. A stable internet connection is strongly recommended.
How many Casambi devices can C-Bridge support?
C-Bridge scales with your Casambi network. Confirm supported network size and performance requirements with your installer before planning a large deployment.
Does C-Bridge work with all Casambi devices?
C-Bridge works with all devices that are part of a Casambi network and visible via the Casambi EXTIF gateway interface. Most standard luminaires, sensors, and switches are supported. Some advanced fixture-specific parameters may not be exposed.
Hardware
What are the physical dimensions of the C-Bridge unit?
Dimensions vary by model. Check the Hardware guide and the datasheet for your specific unit.
What power supply do I need?
Use a manufacturer-approved supply matching the rating and connector on the device label. Confirm the supplied accessories with your distributor.
Can C-Bridge be installed in an IT rack?
Yes, but only if strong Bluetooth coverage is confirmed at that location. Do not install inside an enclosed metal cabinet — this will block Bluetooth signal. Use the included bracket for open mounting in an IT space if needed.
How many C-Bridge units do I need per site?
In most cases, one C-Bridge unit per Casambi network. For large or multi-network sites, one unit per Casambi network is recommended. Multi-site management from a central dashboard is on the product roadmap.
Software & Dashboard
What browsers are supported?
C-Bridge is tested on:
- Google Chrome (recommended)
- Microsoft Edge
- Safari (macOS/iOS)
- Firefox
Internet Explorer is not supported.
Is there a mobile app?
Not yet. The web dashboard is accessible on mobile browsers but is optimized for desktop and tablet. A dedicated mobile app is on the product roadmap.
Can multiple users be logged in at the same time?
Yes. C-Bridge supports multiple simultaneous users. Each user has their own account with role-based access.
What is the default admin login?
Use the credentials supplied with your gateway or printed on its label. Change the password after first login. Contact your installer if the credentials are unavailable.
Can I access C-Bridge remotely?
Remote access requires the device to have internet connectivity. Cloud-based remote access is available when the device is online. For enterprise VPN-based remote access, coordinate with your IT team to route traffic to the device IP.
Integrations
Does C-Bridge support BACnet?
Yes. C-Bridge acts as a BACnet/IP server, exposing Casambi devices as standard BACnet objects (Analog Input/Output, Binary Input/Output, Multi-state Value). See the BACnet Integration guide for setup details.
Is BTL certification available?
BTL certification is planned for a future release as the BACnet implementation matures. Check the Release Notes for updates.
Can I write to BACnet objects (control devices via BMS)?
Yes, where write permissions are enabled. Lights can be dimmed and switched via BACnet writes. See the BACnet Integration guide for details on write-enabled object types.
What BMS platforms are compatible?
C-Bridge uses standard BACnet/IP, which is compatible with virtually all modern BMS platforms including Tridium Niagara, Siemens Desigo, Johnson Controls Metasys, Schneider EcoStruxure, and others.
Does C-Bridge support Modbus?
Not currently. Modbus is not on the near-term roadmap. If this is a requirement, contact us to discuss your use case.
Does C-Bridge have a REST API?
Yes. C-Bridge exposes a REST API and WebSocket interface for real-time integration with custom platforms, dashboards, and automation workflows. See the API documentation in the Integrations section.
Can C-Bridge integrate with HVAC, shading, or security systems?
Direct integration with HVAC, shading, and security systems is on the roadmap. Currently, these integrations can be achieved via the C-Bridge API or BACnet. Contact us to discuss specific integration requirements.
Updates & Maintenance
How are software updates delivered?
Updates are delivered over-the-air (OTA) via the internet. The system uses Mender with an A/B partition scheme, with recovery behavior determined by the deployment configuration. See Firmware & Updates.
How long does an update take?
Typically 2–5 minutes including download and reboot. The device will be temporarily unavailable during the reboot phase (approximately 1–2 minutes).
Do I need to be on-site to perform updates?
No. Updates can be initiated remotely from the C-Bridge interface as long as the device has internet connectivity.
How do I know what version I'm running?
Go to Settings → System → About to view the current software version and hardware revision.
Energy & Reporting
What data does C-Bridge collect for energy monitoring?
C-Bridge collects active power (Watts) and cumulative energy (kWh) from connected Casambi devices that report power consumption. Not all Casambi fixtures report power — check with your fixture manufacturer.
Can I export energy data?
Export options depend on the installed release. Check the formats offered by your gateway; CSV and PDF export availability has not been verified for this guide.
How long is data retained?
Historical energy and sensor data is retained on the device. Specific retention periods depend on storage capacity and software version. For long-term data archiving, export data regularly or integrate with an external data platform via the API.
