Using C-Bridge

Device & Area Management

Organize discovered devices into rooms, zones, and floors.

Overview

Devices and areas are the two core organizational layers in C-Bridge. Devices are individual Casambi-connected hardware units (lights, sensors, switches). Areas are logical groupings of devices that correspond to physical spaces — rooms, zones, or floors.

Proper device and area organization is essential for accurate dashboard visualization, group control, energy monitoring, and alert configuration.

Devices

Discovering Devices

After connecting to the Casambi network, C-Bridge scans the network and retrieves all available devices.

  1. Go to Settings → Devices
  2. Click Discover Devices
  3. C-Bridge scans the Casambi network
  4. A list of discovered devices appears

Adding a Device

For each discovered device:

  1. Click the device in the discovery list
  2. Set the Device Name — use a clear, descriptive name (e.g., "Lobby Downlight 3")
  3. Set the Device Type:
  • Light
  • Sensor (motion, daylight, occupancy)
  • Switch
  • Other
  1. Click Add Device

Repeat for all devices you want to include in C-Bridge.

Tip: You don't need to add every Casambi device — only the ones relevant to monitoring and control via C-Bridge.

Editing a Device

To rename a device or change its type:

  1. Go to Settings → Devices
  2. Click the device name
  3. Edit the fields and save

Areas

Areas represent physical spaces in your building. Every device should be assigned to an area for proper dashboard visualization and group control.

Importing Areas from Smplr

Areas are typically created by importing your floorplan from Smplr.space:

  1. Go to Settings → Areas
  2. Click Sync from Map
  3. C-Bridge imports your Smplr layout automatically

Creating Areas Manually

If you're not using Smplr, areas can be created manually:

  1. Go to Settings → Areas
  2. Click Add Area
  3. Enter a name and optionally assign a floor
  4. Save

Renaming Areas

After import, rename areas to match real-world naming:

  1. Click an area name
  2. Edit the name
  3. Save

Important: Use consistent naming conventions across your installation. Area names appear in the dashboard, energy reports, BACnet objects, and alert notifications.

Assigning Devices to Areas

Once areas exist and devices are added:

  1. Navigate to Areas and select an area
  2. Click Assign Devices
  3. Select the devices that belong in this area
  4. Save

Alternatively, you can assign an area from the device settings:

  1. Open a device in Settings → Devices
  2. Select an area from the Area dropdown
  3. Save

Floors

For multi-storey buildings, areas can be organized into floors:

  1. Go to Settings → Floors
  2. Add floor names (e.g., "Ground Floor", "Level 1")
  3. Assign areas to each floor

Floors appear as tabs or filter options in the dashboard and energy reports.

Best Practices

  • Name devices clearly — include location context in the name (e.g., "Reception Pendant 1" not just "Light 1")
  • Assign all devices to areas — unassigned devices won't appear in the floorplan or area-based energy view
  • Use consistent area naming — matches physical signage or building drawings where possible
  • Don't over-fragment areas — grouping by room or zone works better than per-fixture areas for most use cases
  • Review device list after Casambi network changes — new fixtures added to Casambi will need to be re-discovered in C-Bridge

Troubleshooting

Device Not Appearing in Discovery

  • Confirm the Casambi network is connected and the device is visible in the Casambi app
  • Ensure C-Bridge is within Bluetooth range of the Casambi network
  • Try disconnecting and reconnecting the Casambi cloud in Settings → Devices

Device Shows as Offline

  • Check the device is powered and responsive in the Casambi app
  • Check for Bluetooth range issues — is the C-Bridge unit too far from the device?
  • Restart C-Bridge if offline status persists after fixing the underlying issue

Area Missing After Fetch

  • Confirm the area was published in Smplr before fetching
  • Re-fetch areas if recent Smplr changes are not appearing
