Using C-Bridge

Alerts

Configure connectivity, motion, and energy notifications.

Overview

C-Bridge email alerts notify designated users of important system events in real time. Alerts eliminate the need for constant dashboard monitoring by proactively flagging conditions that require attention — connectivity loss, motion activity, or energy anomalies.

Alert Types

C-Bridge currently supports three alert types:

Alert TypeTriggerTypical Recipients
Internet ConnectionDevice loses internet connectivityIT, System Admin
Motion DetectionMotion detected in a defined areaSecurity, Facilities
High Energy UsageEnergy consumption exceeds a thresholdFacilities Manager, Energy Team

How Alerts Work

When a trigger condition is met, C-Bridge:

  1. Detects the event (via the Casambi network, energy data, or system status)
  2. Sends an email notification to all configured recipients
  3. Logs the event in the activity feed

Each alert email includes:

  • Event type and description
  • Device or area name (where applicable)
  • Timestamp
  • Relevant data (usage level, status, etc.)

Internet Connection Alerts

Purpose

Notifies administrators when the C-Bridge device loses or regains internet access.

Why This Matters

  • Internet loss can disable cloud-dependent features (remote access, OTA updates)
  • Early detection allows IT to respond before it affects operations
  • Critical for sites that rely on C-Bridge for remote monitoring

Trigger Conditions

  • Offline: Triggered when internet connectivity is lost
  • Online: Triggered when connectivity is restored (optional)

Configuration

  1. Go to Alerts → Add Alert
  2. Select Internet Connection
  3. Enable Offline Alert (and optionally the Online recovery alert)
  4. Add recipient email addresses
  5. Save and enable
  • Enable both offline and online alerts so you know when the issue is resolved
  • Assign to IT personnel or system administrators only

Motion Detection Alerts

Purpose

Notifies users when motion is detected in a defined area by a connected Casambi sensor.

Trigger Conditions

  • A motion event is received from a connected Casambi sensor in the configured area

30-Minute Rate Limit

To prevent email flooding in high-traffic areas, C-Bridge applies a rate limit:

  • After a motion alert is sent, additional alerts from the same area are suppressed for 30 minutes
  • After 30 minutes, a new alert can be sent if motion is detected again

Configuration

  1. Go to Alerts → Add Alert
  2. Select Motion Detection
  3. Choose the Area to monitor
  4. Add recipient email addresses
  5. Save and enable
  • After-hours security monitoring
  • Restricted zones or storage areas
  • Low-occupancy spaces where unexpected motion is significant

High Energy Usage Alerts

Purpose

Notifies users when energy consumption from a device, area, or zone exceeds a configured threshold.

Trigger Conditions

  • Cumulative energy usage within a time window exceeds the defined threshold (kWh)

Configuration

  1. Go to Alerts → Add Alert
  2. Select High Energy Usage
  3. Set the Threshold (kWh) and Time Window
  4. Select the Area or Device to monitor
  5. Add recipient email addresses
  6. Save and enable

Alert Email Contents

  • Current energy reading vs. threshold
  • Area or device name
  • Time window of measurement
  • Timestamp
  • Set thresholds based on typical usage — pull historical data from the Energy & Monitoring page first
  • Assign alerts to facility managers or sustainability teams
  • Start with conservative thresholds and adjust after observing real usage patterns

Managing Alerts

Enable / Disable an Alert

  • Each alert has a toggle on the Alerts list page
  • Disabled alerts are not triggered but their configuration is preserved

Edit an Alert

  1. Click the alert name in the Alerts list
  2. Update the configuration
  3. Save

Delete an Alert

  • Click the alert, then click Delete
  • Deletion is permanent — the alert configuration is removed

Best Practices

  • Assign alerts to the most relevant users — avoid sending all alerts to everyone
  • Use motion alerts strategically — only in areas where unexpected motion is genuinely significant
  • Review energy thresholds after the first month of operation to calibrate them against real usage
  • Keep recipient lists current — update them when staff roles change

Troubleshooting

Not Receiving Alert Emails

  • Check the spam/junk folder first
  • Verify the recipient email addresses in the alert configuration
  • Confirm the C-Bridge device has internet connectivity (Settings → Network → Internet status)
  • Test by manually triggering the condition if possible

Too Many Emails Being Sent

  • Motion alerts are already rate-limited to 30 minutes — check if multiple areas each have motion alerts configured
  • For energy alerts, the configured threshold may be set too low — review and raise it

Alert Shows Active but No Email Was Sent

  • Verify the alert is enabled (toggle is green)
  • Check internet connectivity — emails require outbound internet access
